Charities 2003--Proposed for Regular Financial Aid

"Praise the Lord, O my soul! I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will
sing praises
to my God while I have being. Happy is he…whose hope is in the Lord his God…who
gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free; the Lord opens the
eyes of
the blind.
The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down…he upholds the widows and the
fatherless… The Lord will reign for ever, thy God, O Zion, to all generations.
Praise
the Lord!"
--Psalm 146
We would like to introduce you to two of the charities that St. Innocent's
supports (You can too!)
Project Mexico
Project Mexico is an outreach which involves Orthodox young
people in the
alleviation of suffering by building homes for Mexico's poor. Thousands of teens
and young adults from all jurisdictions across the United States and Europe have
participated.
Project Mexico also includes St. Innocent Orphanage and
Mission Church in Tijuana,
Mexico. This facility serves as a base for homebuilding trips and as a center
from
which evangelistic outreach can be conducted into neighboring communities.
St. Innocent Orphanage provides a home for young teenage boys who otherwise would be forced to live on the streets. This is the only facility in all of Tijuana which focuses on orphaned and abused teenage boys.

"Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of God is this...to care
for orphans and widows in their distress..." (James 1:27)
The Hogar Rafael Ayau Orphanage in Guatemala
The Hogar Rafael Ayau is an orphanage in Guatemala, housing an average of 170
children at any given time. Some children are in the process of adoption, others
have been abandoned on the streets and are waiting to see if they will be
reclaimed
by their families. The youngest child ever to be placed in the Hogar was one day
old.
The oldest children are elementary age, girls up to 12 years old and boys up to
9
years old.
The Hogar is run by Orthodox nuns living at the Monasterio Ortodoxo Lavra Mambre
in Guatemala. The orphanage was founded in 1857, and was the first home for
abandoned children in the area. Today, the 5 nuns at Hogar Rafael Ayau welcome
over 150 lost, abandoned or battered children. Because Guatemala is an extremely
poor country, the orphanage continuously receives babies and children brought to
its doors.
The nuns of the Hogar Rafael Ayau are asking for help. They need good people to
donate money, to visit the Orphanage for a few weeks of work, or to adopt a
child.
