(This season of the year, when many Californians celebrate Cinco de Mayo and plan summer trips to Mexico's beautiful beaches, is a good time to remember Project Mexico and St. Innocent Orphanage, located right over Rosarito Beach near Tijuana.)

Taking a Look at a Special Organization:

St. Innocent Orphanage—Project Mexico

St. Innocent Orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico provides a home for teenage boys who would otherwise be left to fend for themselves.  Due to an almost complete lack of facilities in the Tijuana area, orphaned or abandoned boys are usually cared for until the age of twelve, and then sent out on their own.  These children have little access to education or social and spiritual training. Without intervention, they generally live out their lives as criminals, addicts, gang members, and prostitutes on the streets of Tijuana.

St. Innocent Orphanage seeks not only to meet the boys' basic needs but to accomplish much more. The orphanage provides a loving home environment for up to twenty boys. Each boy is guided in the Orthodox Christian life, completes high school, is provided with vocational skills, and receives social and cultural training. Care is provided until the age of eighteen or until high school is completed. At that time the boys are given the option to stay to either further their studies or establish themselves in a career. Upon completion of the program, each boy receives a small savings acquired by participation in profit-making ventures attached to the orphanage.

You personally can become involved in several ways. You can join the group of faithful who regularly pray for the staff and outreach of St. Innocent Orphanage and Project Mexico. Financial and material donations are needed on an ongoing basis.  A Needs List is available upon request. Any individual interested in supporting St. Innocent Orphanage and Project Mexico may do so by writing:
