Taking a Look at a Special Organization:

CHILDREACH

Childreach is the U.S. member of Plan International, which is a global, non-profit, child-centered development organization helping needy children and their families since 1937.  Childreach helps children and families living 43 developing countries around the world with grassroots, community-based programs treating and improving health, education and working and living conditions.  The ultimate objective of their work is to make lasting improvements in the lives of deprived children.  Projects are planned, implemented, and their results are evaluated at the level of the child.  Families and communities contribute as much as they can of their time, labor, and their funds--a value that can amount to more than half of the project costs.

Childreach funds its works through child sponsorship programs.  Individual sponsors contribute regular contributions, which Childreach combines with funds from other sponsors to implement programs in their sponsored child's community.  For $24.00 each month, you can be a sponsor of one specific child and will receive information about that child, his or her family, and the community in which they live.  Besides asking for this small monthly donation, Childreach encourages sponsors and children to write to each other to share and exchange information.  It believes a vital part of a sponsorship program is the relationship that a child can have with someone who cares.

Childreach is looking for sponsors for children in Ethiopia.  Drought and ethnic strife are regular threats to this mostly agricultural country, and can cause great economic hardship.  Many children are in need of vaccinations, school supplies, and clean water.  If you feel that you are able to sponsor a child, please contact Childreach at:
